The American Cancer Society and National Cancer Institute estimates that roughly one-third of all cancer deaths are related to diet and activity. We have highlighted some food and elements that are not commonly consumed, but are linked as essential to breast and general health.

Cruciferous Vegetables are the vegetable family which includes kale, brussel spouts, an broccoli. You can see a complete list of these veggies here. This particular group of veggies is an excellent source of distinctive phytochemicals known as glucosinolates. Once inside the body, glucosinolates are changed into compounds such as idole-3-carbinol (I3C) and isothiocyanates. These phytochemical compounds have been shown to protect against colon, breast, prostate, thyroid, cervical and other cancers. Essentially, they are a natural clearer of estrogen.
Additionally, recent studies, such as the one from the British Journal of Cancer, reveal that certain naturally occurring phytochemicals found in cruciferous vegetables target specific breast cancer genes. An alternative for folks who do not have the time to prepare, or do not like the taste of cruciferous vegetables can supplement with Standard Process Cruciferous Complete. Read a study on the connection between these veggies and breast health.
Dimension3 from Xymogen is a cruciferous vegetable extract. It clears estrogen from the liver and supports healthy estrogen metabolism. A balanced estrogen level is essential for cellular health and prevention of cancers.
Vitamin D is in the spotlight again! Optimal levels of Vitamin D (40-80 ng/ml) enhance the creation and functioning of healthy cells throughout the body. In addition to protecting the bones and boosting the immune system, studies show that Vitamin D helps prevent certain cancers, including breast, ovarian, prostate, and colorectal
.A study conducted by Cedric Garland and other prominent vitamin D researchers determined that women with vitamin D levels above 52 ng/ml have half the risk of developing breast cancer as those with 13 ng/m. Garland (et al) estimates that 58,000 new cases of breast cancer in the U.S. could be prevented per year by raising vitamin D levels to 52 ng/ml.
Most people are deficient in Vitamin D, so get out in the sun, and supplement, supplement, supplement!
Iodine is an antioxidant and an antiproliferative agent (controls growth). Iodine has shown to slow and stop cancer growth in cell cultures.
Women who live in areas where a high quantity of iodine is consumed daily (read seaweed in Japan) have one of the lowest incidence of breast cancer and benign breast diseases worldwide. Americans of Japanese decent have risks similar to that of Caucasian Americans, connecting a diet high in iodine with breast health. Dr. David Derry talks more about iodine, breast cancers, and thyroid function in this short article.
Iodine is very difficult to obtain in the American diet. Although salt is "iodized," once the container is exposed to air, the iodine content is nearly gone within 4 weeks. Kelp tablets (available at health food stores) and Iodoral work well to keep a healthy level of iodine in the body.
Introducing Amy Crocetti & the Alexander Technique!
We are so pleased to welcome Amy Crocetti to the Global Healing Team! Amy is an AmSAT certified Alexander Technique instructor, a licensed PTA, and a certified Swedish Massage Therapist.
What is the Alexander Technique?
The Alexander Technique is a system for teaching people of all ages how to maximize their body's potential in everyday activities. The goal of the technique is to awaken and re-educate the person so that unhealthy postures and poor movement no longer feel "right." As awareness increases, one can learn to avoid or reduce unnecessary physical stress that is inevitably linked to pain or disability.
What are the benefits?
This technique will help you identify and stop destructive body patters, and learn to better respond to your environment. For example, in this highly technological age, almost everyone spends time in front of a computer. Many of us are familiar with the wrist, back, and shoulder pain this can cause. Alexander will teach you awareness to correct "bad" habits that result in pain. It has also been proven useful for those with back problems, breathing disorders, poor posture, scoliosis, and other structural conditions.
Amy is available for Alexander Instruction and massage 3 days a week at our office. Call today to schedule your appointment!

Low Level Laser Therapy is the Ultimate treatment for a healthy immune system. Dr. Lex is extremely excited about this protocol. The laser light helps the body heal itself through the following benefits:
Rapid Cell Growth - Laser light accelerates cellular reproduction and growth.
Faster Wound Healing - Laser light stimulates fibroblast development and accelerates collagen synthesis in damaged tissue.
Increased Metabolic Activity - Higher outputs of specific enzymes, greater oxygen and food particle loads for blood cells and thus greater production of the basic food source for cells, Adenosine Tri-Phosphate (ATP).
Reduced Fibrous Tissue Formation - Laser light reduces the formation of scar tissue following tissue damage from: cuts, scratches, burns or post surgery.
Anti-Inflammatory Action - Laser light reduces swelling caused by bruising or inflammation of joints to give enhanced joint mobility.
Increased Vascular Activity - Laser light induces temporary vasodilatation increasing blood flow to damaged areas.
Stimulated Nerve Function - Slow recovery of nerve function in damaged tissue can result in "dead" limbs or numb areas. Laser light speeds the process of nerve cell reconnection to bring the numb areas back to life.
"I feel remarkably energized!" ~56 year old female land developer, after the 10 visit protocol.

Looks like Martha Stewart agrees. This info and recipe was taken from her site.
Named for the cross-shaped flowers they bear, crucifers contain a wide variety of disease-fighting antioxidants and phytochemicals -- including carotenoids, vitamin C, and indoles, which scientists believe may stave off the growth of cancerous cells in the stomach, colon, and lungs. Kale, collard greens, and turnip greens provide calcium as well; brussels sprouts, iron. And all crucifers are also sources of complex carbohydrates and fiber.
1 1/2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
3/4 teaspoon curry powder
3/4 teaspoon coarse salt
1 large head cauliflower (about 2 pounds), cut into large florets
Nonstick olive-oil cooking spray
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Coat a rimmed baking sheet with cooking spray. In a large bowl, stir together oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry powder, and salt. Add the cauliflower, tossing to coat thoroughly with spice mixture.
Arrange cauliflower in a single layer on prepared sheet. Roast until florets are browned on bottom and tender when pierced with the tip of a paring knife, about 35 minutes. Serve hot.
