Body Memory Recall (BMR)
A healthy, vital body is one that is free of the past. Old injuries, emotions, and fears are often stored within the body causing stress, tension, and restriction within the tissues. BMR (Body Memory Recall) is a form of hands-on healing that integrates gentle forms of touch, pressure, and stretch to release old body memories and their associated body tensions. BMR significantly improves your health and function. For many, BMR has proven to be pivotal for creating lasting change.
What is BMR?
BMR consists of hands-on healing and therapeutic dialogue which support the complete recall, release, resolution and thus transformation of body memory. Typical BMR healing session consists of the following three steps:
- An Interview. The practitioner asks the client for medical history dating back to birth and including previous health conditions, trauma, stress and particularly challenging experiences (e.g., a breach birth, pneumonia, broken bones, car accidents, abuse, loss of a family member or spouse, surgery). The practitioner also asks the client for a list of current health conditions as well as healing goals.
- A Postural Evaluation. The interview is followed by an evaluation of the client's posture. The practitioner looks for tension that is pulling the body out of its ideal alignment and identifies epicenters of tension located along the midline of the body. Imagine if you scrunched the center of a tablecloth. You would notice the tension created at the center of the cloth extending to all four corners. Epicenters of tension have a similar effect on the body.
- Hands-on Healing. Using the information gathered in the interview and postural evaluation, the practitioner places his hands on the body, relying on kinesthetic sensitivity to feel the location of body memory and the body armor surrounding it. The practitioner then sustains energy, generated by their hands, to armored areas of the body which facilitates a release of protective tension and the suppressed energy it contained. Touch begins light and gentle and progressively deepens as armored tissues releases.
After a BMR Healing Session
After a BMR session, the practitioner will reevaluate and note improvements in the client's posture, alignment and range of motion. He will also provide the client the opportunity to share about the BMR experience, ask questions, and discuss the next steps.
Frequency of BMR
The frequency of a BMR healing sessions is customized by the practitioner to meet the client's unique needs and takes into consideration a client's current health condition, healing goals, and initial response to BMR.
BMR Healing Intensives
To best assist others to achieve new levels of healing, freedom and vitality, Jonathan has created the BMR Healing Intensive. His 20 years of experience has shown him that people have accumulated body memory over a lifetime and they need concentrated support and healing energy to breakthrough lifelong patterns of tension and the habit to suppress rather than express - especially emotion.
The format of a BMR Healing Intensive is 1.5 hours of BMR in the morning and 1.0 hours of BMR in the afternoon, for 5 or 10 days. For those who may be limited in time and resources, there is also the 3 day mini intensive.
Self-Care and Referrals
Recommendations for self-care, in the form of nutrition, exercise, and affirmations are incorporated in the BMR approach. Referral to healthcare professionals (e.g., chiropractors, acupuncturists, massage therapists, yoga instructors, nutritionists, counselors, and medical physicians) is also necessary at times to fulfill the unique transformational needs of each person.
